No one really got involved with categories, so I'm changing stuff, through use of the infoboxes mainly:

  • Year sets will now be Sets released in year.
  • Themes will have a "theme sets" category.
  • Numbers will go to nearest thousand, so instead of 10000 sets, we have 10000 sets, 11000 sets, 12000 sets, etc.

This should hopefully be added through the infobox. Since no one cared last time, this is just a notice really. CJC95 (talk) 11:40, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

So if it's automatic, I don't have to worry about remembering it? :D Berrybrick (talk) 15:47, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
  • So, this is harder than I thought it would be - I forgot wikicode lacks operations and equalities. CJC95 (talk) 20:39, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
    • Working code is here, with examples here (please delete the pages when you're done with them). EnormousGreenRageMonster (talk) 00:41, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
      • I'd forgot (well, not known :P) ifexpr was a thing. Thanks :) CJC95 (talk) 08:40, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

Points:

  1. I added an override for the numbers, for things like video games with multiple numbers.
  2. I have a way of dealing with themes - it would require a massive switch - basically one entry for each theme and subtheme. This would take a while to implement now, but would be easy to maintain in the future. However, whether its worth the effort, I don't know. I'll do it if people want it. There would be a maintenance category that listed all the pages which didn't match a switch, so we could fix them or add them to the list.
  3. Year will be harder - usually its just a year, or a month and year, which would be fine - but some have full dates, or multiple dates, or dates with flags, or sources, which would ruin it.

  • And in which case, do I capitalise sets or not in titles, e.g. Ninjago Sets or Ninjago sets? I'd prefer the latter. CJC95 (talk) 19:35, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
  • With NBP that makes 3. CJC95 (talk) 22:09, 12 August 2014 (UTC)

Another one[edit source]

Okay, so I've added a lot of themes to this and will implement it soon, then go through all the categories, because it gets confusing especially for old sets. Some sets will still have additional categories, things like 9V, and DUPLO, TECHNIC and the like are confusing too, so it will take a while for it all to get "back to normal" category wise, but hopefully it doesn't affect most of you. • I've noticed a couple of minor problems, for example: 3804_Yoda_Key_Chain_with_Pen_Bead_Elements because it uses PenssiStar Wars and the Pens is getting in the way, I'm not sure how you want to deal with that. But on the whole, it seems to be working really well. I've also worked up something here (examples here) for the year categories. It looks for the strings [[19 or [[20, I can't think of any reason why these strings would be used for anything other than years, since the date formats go month than day (eg, September 19, not 19 September). The links around the categories will need to be added so they're actually beingput in categories, I just thought it was easier to leave them without for testing purposes. • All those issues end up in a category that I am working my way through - luckily it seems the cache refresh takes a while and most haven't been affected yet - at least at my end. For things like 3804, if there are many that use that format, I'll just add it to the table. If not, I'll use the override and manually do it. I'm currently working through our list of themes, so some issues you see may take me a while to get too, though hopefully no more than a week. CJC95 (talk) 19:13, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

See GetTheme, seems lots of that can be used to save rewriting templates. Also, some of the YearTable ones, YearTable/years I think, have already been made. (I realise there are essentially no docs, so I can explain anything you don't get! 87.254.83.101

  • I only found GetTheme after I already wrote the theme one unfortunately. I could adapt it, not sure if it would make too much difference but I'll have a look at it - it might fix small issues like
    TECHNIC si Service Packs
    and
    TECHNICsiService Packs
being read differently. CJC95 (talk) 19:13, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
    • Actually, it may solve a few issues like unassigned subthemes. CJC95 (talk) 19:44, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

Progress report[edit source]

Okay, so we are close to finishing System themes- the only issues are the merchandise, because people put Product Collections or Luggage or others as the "first theme". I wouldn't class them as themes at all - at the very least, I'd say put Star Wars then Pens, as Pens is a product line, not a theme (and that way, both this and the colour for the infoboxes will work). Unless anyone has objections, I will change stuff to that. But since there is lots, I'm going to start it anyway, and can undo if people hate the idea, but really, how is "Food and Drink" a theme? Its just a name we use (well, copy off Brickset or Bricklink) to group together cutlery. CJC95 (talk) 10:37, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
