Back in the old days, we had these wonderful things called "subthemes". We found these noble creatures all over the online LEGO Shop. However, a while back, the site was redesigned, and subthemes no longer appear in any sort of navigation, so they appear to have become an endangered species. I can't find any official source which for instance places 75046 in the The Clone Wars subtheme. Which means we should be doing one of three things:

  • Leave things which were classified into subthemes as they were, and no longer add subthemes
  • Remove all subthemes
  • Put things into existing subthemes as we see fit, and create new subthemes from now on

The problem with the last thing is- how do we define a new subtheme? Would we have a new Star Wars: Rebels subtheme since we have 75048 The Phantom and 75053 The Ghost? What about one for Star Wars: The Old Republic (see 9497 Republic Striker Starfighter, 9500, 75001 and 75025). One way we could define a subtheme would be if it has some sort of extra logo on the box, we call it a subtheme (all TOR sets have the TOR logo and the Rebels sets have their own box designs). But if we go by that logic, that would mean creating a theme for The Force Unleashed, which consists of a grand total of one set (7672)...

Sorry for all the references being Star Wars, it's just what I know best ;) Anyway, please ignore this forum along with all the rest. NovaHawk 12:10, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

We can define our subthemes as they're deemed necessary. In the Star Wars examples listed, those would be subthemes, yes. As long as we're not making stuff up (we know that these sets are based on Star Wars: Rebels so we can list that as a subtheme of Star Wars), we can list things under a subtheme even if LEGO never did so on their shop website. This is how Brickset does it as well. I think doing this would be fine for us unless you want to list them all under merely "Expanded Universe". --ToaMeiko (talk) 14:34, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
Hm. I think that I more or less agree with Meiko. Really, we should just UCS when it comes to what's a subtheme and what isn't. -Cligra
@Meiko- Well, now you've said that, it's made me realise that Rebels has to be its own subtheme if we're going to still have subthemes, because it can't go into the Expanded Universe theme (TCW and Rebels being part of the new canon). @Cligra, I agree with UCS I guess, but should we have some sort of template saying this hasn't been officially made a subtheme? Honestly there are no real "official" subthemes unless you count when things like Bionicle where also under the Technic line in 2001 and similar things. Things like Orient Expedition under Adventurers is just a story arc in the theme, no different than Clone Wars and Star Wars. --ToaMeiko (talk) 01:06, 6 June 2014 (UTC)
I like the third option. I fear it will mean another bureaucratic institution nobody will check for creating subtheme pages, but has that stopped us yet? :P Berrybrick (talk) 01:07, 6 June 2014 (UTC)
  • I was recently removing things saying that Alien Conquest sets were subthemes of space, as there's nothing on the box or website to say so. However, I then realised the theme says it's a subtheme of space. There's no official thing saying it's a subtheme of space, so I assume someone has just decided it look space-y so should be a subtheme of space. Can it please not be a subtheme of space, as it has no relation to the pure-space theme, it's it's own theme that just happens to have something to do with space, even though all the sets are set on earth!. • Yeah there's nothing tying it to space, and it doesn't even take place in space, so I wouldn't consider it a Space subtheme by any means. --ToaMeiko (talk) 18:46, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
