Though all the rumours have been pretty much convincing that BIONICLE will be returning in 2015, we now have substantial evidence of this being true. The LEGO Shop site more or less has confirmed the theme's return. When you search for "bionicle" on the LEGO Shop website, it redirects you to a "Coming Soon" page. The full text of the page is copied below in case the page is removed:

COMING SOON…

The items you're searching for have not yet launched. They are coming soon so keep checking back for more information. You can also sign up for our emails to stay up to date on the latest sets!

And here's a screenshot:

Friends, I cannot tell you how long we have been waiting for this moment. Five years couldn't have come soon enough. Get ready for a new journey. That is the way... of the BIONICLE.

That's what I'm expecting will happen, and although the older fans might not like it, it means that newer fans (myself possibly included) will be able to experience the same thing that they did back in 2001 -- a fresh story, about collecting masks on a tropical island while fighting evil creatures.

I'm an older fan (I got into it around 2003, but I was kind of on and off) and that's what I want. There are a lot that want a continuation, but I just want to make sure people realize it isn't everyone. :P I'll be happy either way though, the sets are what are important to me right now, since I can always do the story myself.

I thought the latest year with the minifigure-scale heroes and the CCBS mechs were pretty good though.

My local TRU just started selling STARS sets again too. What a strange coincidence.

Piraka, Takanuva, and Skrall have been on the shelves since they came out at my TRU, and although I haven't been to my TRU in several months I bet you can still find some.

LEGO redirected it to Hero Factory again, but we know the truth.

(And I'm making cheesy references. Well played....)

I'm pretty excited, I was a little too late when I first indulged in BIONICLE but now I have some time and can enjoy a bunch of new lines of sets. Can't wait for release!

Hopefully it'll be a reboot in which you'd be able to start back at the beginning of the story, or at least at some good starting point they make in 2015.

This is so weird - I was looking through my old BIONICLE pieces just yesterday and thought the theme was long dead. I hope they find a way to make the connections come apart easier - that really annoyed me about the old BIONICLE!

They'll be using the same joints as Hero Factory, so there won't be any more problems with stiffness or breaking!

Awesome! I wonder if Greg Farshtey will return to direct the storyline again.

That would be cool. Greg is still active in the fan community, so I wouldn't be surprised if he contributes to the story again.

One thing I'm eager to see is if they'll up the AU$ price for the sets. I'm predicting they'll go back to the under-$20-route. So yeah, exciting.
