Comment: to enter open beta

From what I can tell, all of our wikis at the moment are pretty much ghost towns, and I was just wondering what the benefits of running closed beta for a whole other month would actually be- the fraction of closed beta testers who have actually been looking for bugs I would say have found just about all they're going to at this point, and it just seems like a waste of time continuing with this closed phase. Just wondering what the opinions are about starting open beta a bit sooner? Of course, I don't know whether starting open beta sooner is even possible from the sysadmin/management side of things, so please ignore this forum if it isn't. But if it isn't possible, could we at least bring in a few more users (like 10-15 people) for closed beta? NovaHawk 20:20, 26 October 2013 (EDT)

  • Let's have people take a poll to see:
Are you ready right now for closed beta to end? Explain below the poll as well.

    • I haven't noticed any unfixed bugs yet in my limited testing of the wiki... the rest of the bugs will probably be found in Open Beta. I think we can start Open Beta. --LEGOSuperDKong (talk) 20:50, 27 October 2013 (EDT)
    • Not sure why, but the poll won't let me vote. Anyway, I'd support the end of the closed beta stage. {{SUBST:User:SKP4472/signature}} (talk) 06:09, 27 October 2013 (EDT)
    • I've already caught a few bugs (and the fixes have already been published live), and there is only one more bug that I'm going to report for the Deepsea skin, but besides that I don't see much else. I'm always willing to wait though, albeit it would be nice if Open Beta for Brickimedia started earlier. ;) Codyn329 (talk) 23:44, 27 October 2013 (EDT)
    • Yes, I don't see why not. Whilst I am struggling to colour up LSW's Deep Sea (it looks terrible at the moment), not a lot of people will bother going and changing the skins like that. SirComputer (talk) 05:53, 28 October 2013 (EDT)
  • Can I get a recap of how open beta will work, or be redirected to where I can find one? I don't want people to forget what "open beta" means and never come back because they don't like how it looks. We're LEGO fans, twice a year, every year, the same thing happens with set images. :P Berrybrick (talk) 07:26, 28 October 2013 (EDT)
    • Release Schedule has information. A "disclaimer" of sorts will be in the sitenotice saying that it is a beta, that things are changing, etc. I'll post a blog about open beta at its starts giving a bunch of info to testers and inquirers, which will point out those sorts of things you show concern of. --ToaMeiko (talk) 07:54, 28 October 2013 (EDT)
  • I voted "Yes". I haven't noticed any bugs, I'd love to begin to get other users here, and the only real changes I'd care to see before the launch are the ability to edit comments (if possible) and something similar to WikiActivity. Oh, on the topic of features, will there eventually be the "social" features we had the first time Brickimedia was out? I wouldn't miss the "Friends" one too much, but the Private Messages were quite useful. BrickfilmNut (talk) 18:34, 30 October 2013 (EDT)
    • We disabled Friends because they work very poorly on a farm with a shared user table and all, and the social user page altogether because it was complicated for several people. For private messages, I'd suggest you propose it as a new enhancement using one of the links provided at Issues. --ToaMeiko (talk) 20:36, 30 October 2013 (EDT)
  • As long as everyone knows that the site is subject for change, I'm all for this. - Bug (talk) 22:17, 30 October 2013 (EDT)
  • Friends don't seem worthwhile to me. I don't see why you need another month of closed beta, but I haven't done anything here.BobaFett2 (talk) 21:39, 30 October 2013 (EDT)
  • I would support doing something. There isn't much happening right now. There must bugs out there, but seeing as at the mo we haven't got enough people/content to find them. I'm not 100% sure about fully opening it up, but if that's the only way to go that's fine. What we do need is more users/content, so I would be fully in support of bringing in some more betatesters and importing some test content. UltrasonicNXT (talk)
  • By strong majority in the vote, Brickimedia open beta will start tomorrow. --ToaMeiko (talk) 15:41, 31 October 2013 (EDT)
