Matoro is a BIONICLE character. He first appeared in the BIONICLE storyline as a Matoran on the island of Mata Nui who translates for Turaga Nuju. He was later rebuilt into a stronger form, and later became a Toa Inika. Him and his team went into the depths of Mahri Nui to use the Mask of Life to save the dying great spirit Mata Nui, and so were transformed into Toa Mahri. At the end of this mission, he realised that he had to make the ultimate sacrifice to save Mata Nui and his friends by donning the mask himself, which transformed his body into pure life energy, reviving Mata Nui, but tragically killing Matoro.

Matoran
Matoro is the sole interpreter of Nuju's mystical stories, following the meaning of the storyteller's movements and tones. He always stands motionless on Nuju's right during storytelling. He strikes a narrator's pose with his legs apart, head back and he uses his deep and booming voice to relay Nuju's wisdom. Matoro stays close to Nuju since the Bohrok have awoken, so he's close at hand whenever the Turaga hold their councils.
Toa Inika
Able to depart from his physical body and turn invisible, Matoro is sent on missions to spy on the enemy or search remote parts of the island. His laser-powered ice sword pacifies anyone – or anything – suspicious.
Toa Mahri
Toa Matoro feels responsible for losing the Mask of Life and is determined to get it back, come what may, even if it means making a deal with his worst enemy.
