The box[edit | edit source]
Since this is my first pop star set I'll go in to detail about the box. The further you go from the left, the box changes from the regular purple Friends colour to yellow. The edges have a similar colour scheme, except from top to bottom. There's several stars and sparkles embedded into this design. Speaking of sparkles there's sparkles added to the set itself, such on one of the mirror's lights or on Livi's over skirt. Emma's hairbrush warrants a sparkle too appearntly :P Behind the set there's a crowd cheering Livi on. Surprisingly Livi is the character on the back, making her the second character after Kate who is not a friend to be the picture. The back, like usual displays the different features of the set through different pictures.
The contents[edit | edit source]
We get two numbered bags, a mirrored back sticker sheet and a medium sized instruction manual.
Bag 1[edit | edit source]
The parts
The bright reddish violet "panel" pieces are exclusive! Livi's hair in this azure colour only appears in this set too! Cookie and Livi's warm gold skirt don't appear anywhere else aswell! The warm gold stars, bright purple ice cream cone and transparent accessory holders are all new to this wave and only appear in a hand full of other sets. The medium lavender "A" shaped pieces only appear here and in 41058 Heartlake Shopping Mall. Unfortunately we get the accessory pack in medium lilac, this is our fifth time getting it in that colour! The light purple, aqua and bright yellowish orange versions are still exclusive to the 2012 set they were in, why can't they come back instead of this dull and overused colour.
Livi and Cookie
Since this is my first review with Livi, I'll give my thoughts on her head and hair. I love the moulding for her hair, it's so vibrant. I would've preferred a normal hair colour that was half dyed bright reddish violet or had bright reddish violet highlights over it being the base colour. I think it would've been better for her to have grey eyes over violet, because grey eyes are more common and we have no LEGO character with them yet. I love Livi's outfit! The gold halter nesh over the silver top. I love this new overskirt design, it's glitter one side and plain the other. This one is medium lavender (there's two more later in the set). I love Livi's warm gold layered skirt with medium lavender shoes, I'm not sure it will be that useful but it looks great!
It's a little odd Cookie has the same colour eyes as Livi, is he wearing contacts. He defaintly looks like a dalmation puppy and if you have one I'm sure you'll want him. They gave him a music note spot to fit in with the pop star theme so I don't think he'll appear in any sets in the near future.
The dog bed
It's weird that the fog built is built now, as it's put in to use later. I like the curves but the jumper plates in the middle seem a bit off. I think it would've worked better if the back one was a 1x2 brick and the front was a flat 1x2. There's also a simple constructed feeding bowl where Cookie keeps his bone.
The vanity section
I love the use of black and bright reddish violet! The two colors go really well together. Livi's chair is nicely constructed. I like the use of the "cheese" slopes and the warm gold star on the back. The chair is on one of those large turntables so it can rotate, however it does not go the full way, as the star gets in the way. There's a butterfly and heart shaped sunglasses in the drawer. The use of the ice cream cone for a bouquet is a fantastic idea! Like in most of these vanity sets there's a lipstick, and a cheese slope that has various foundations, blushes and brushes. There's two accessory holders to the left. I like the way they added lights on to the mirror, very realistic! The mirror itself is a nice change from the usual plain mirrors, it has various notes on it! There's a nicely constructed stand for Livi's blue wig, I would've preferred a regular hair colour but oh well. The sign has a very nice design to it, I like the star in the center! The sign can also swivel 360'.
Bag 2[edit | edit source]
The parts
The transparent black panel pieces make their first appearance in a Friends set, here. The printed "What's at heart" newspaper tile, Emma's torso, and the warm gold purse are all new to this wave.
Emma
Emma's head, hair and legs are nothing new and quite common. Her torso only appears here and 41106 Pop Star Tour Bus. It's a lovely lavender jacket over a sliver top. I hope in the future we see it with sleeves!
Cookie's hideout
Finally, we are at the spot to hold the dog bed! There's also a mail box where fan's can send fan mail to Livi.
The clothes rack
What a clever build! I love the use of the hook pieces for hangers! The colors on the overcast are bright reddish violet and medium azure. The stack of shoes is a nice touch too. There's also the inside of the mailbox, with a letter falling out. There's also a nice long mirror sticker on the end.
The waiting area
I hate this couch for one reason, awful colour scheme! Seriously what lavender and white couch would have bright reddish violet arms and bright yellowish violet cushions. The sticker on the door is nice, it's a shame the door knob isn't a star.
The lounge area
I love this section! I love the stickers on the wall of the throphies Livi had won and pictures of her and her friends. I wonder who her blue haired friend is? Is there really a big demand for popstars with vibrant colored hair! :P The newspaper stand is simple but effective. I love Livi's interior couch! It has a nice build and colour scheme, I could've done without the black though. Livi keeps her purse on the couch. Beside the couch is a minifridge with bottle of water. There's a bowl with a red apple in it over the fridge.
Each of the sections of the set are on different hinges, so the set can look drastically different. This way the set looks great and is great for play!
Conclusion[edit | edit source]
Build/Design | 4½ / 5 |
Playability | 4½ / 5 |
Parts | 5 / 5 |
Price | 4½ / 5 |
Overall | 4½ / 5 |
Overall I really like this set! It has a great base colour scheme and most of the things on the inside have a fine colour scheme too. The set itself looks realistic but just girly enough, see the image under bag 2 if you need convincing. The characters look fine and so do their outfits. It's a fun set to play with and I'm not sure a pop star dressing room could be better. It would've been nice to include a small stage or karaoke section, just to masks it more popstary. The pieces are great, even the black (because you won't have much if you mostly buy Friends sets). Overall I highly recommend this set or at least wait until it's $25, it be a steal at that price!
