Hello everybody! Brikkyy13 here bringing you another Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens review! Today I have with me 75099 Rey's Speeder, the smallest set in the range. This set has 193 pieces, 2 minifigures and retails for $19.99 USD.

Box and contents[edit | edit source]

The boxes for the new Force Awakens line depict Kylo Ren wielding his trademark cross-guard lightsaber. The back of the box showcases the set's features and shows a little holographic view of the vehicle.

In the box there are 2 numbered bags, an instruction booklet and a sticker sheet. The instruction book included is small. The back cover features a look at all the minifigures from this wave of sets and a look at 75102 Poe's X-Wing Starfighter.

The Set[edit | edit source]

The finished set blows you away with its simplicity. The new speeder looks like a brick with an engine, very fitting for a LEGO set. When examined closer, the level of detail on this thing can't be beat.

There are 2 minifigures included in this set. The first figure included is Rey, one of the main protagonists in the film. The figure is very nice and looks quite accurate to her appearance in the film. She has two facial expressions, one happy and one serious. Rey wears robes that are reminiscent of those worn by characters on Tatooine. Her hair piece is new and currently exclusive to her character. It features 3 small pony tails. I guess she's trying to live up to Princess Leia's iconic hairstyle... Rey also features a very alien looking head dress. While Rey also appears in 75105 Millennium Falcon, this piece does not. Her head gear thingy is exclusive to this set. Accessories include a staff and a bag.

The second minifigure included in this set is Unkar's Thug. We haven't seen any official images of this guy in the film, so I have nothing to compare it too. The figure sports a gray motif and looks like he belongs in a scrapyard. If I saw one of these guys I think I would be very terrified. A gold crowbar is included as an accessory. Potential spoilers If you do not wish to be spoiled, move to below the next photo. Rey is supposed to be a scavenger on the planet Jakku, and Unkar is supposed to be a junk dealer. Could they be rivals?

Rey's speeder looks very accurate to its appearance in the first teaser trailer. The speeder is built primarily from reddish brown bricks. One side is decorated with weapons and the other side is clear. The side with weapons has a space for Rey's staff (the instructions dictate that Rey's bag can be put here). The front is built with silver grill pieces, while the back is built with grey astromech droid heads with blue studs on top.

The control area is pretty plain. It features two antenna as control levers and a sticker for the control panel. There is space to seat one minifigure.

B75099-25.JPG

The underside of the speeder is covered with transparent slideshoes and an inverted 2x2 tile so it can slide along surfaces easily.

B75099-19.JPG

As far as play features go, this set has two. The first is something that I couldn't spot on the speeder in the teaser trailer, two stud shooters on the front of the vehicle. Whether or not the speeder will have weapons in the movie, I'm not sure, but there are stud shooters on this version of the vehicle. The studs shoot far and fast, so it could be easy to lose them. 8 extra studs are included.

The second play feature is built right into the body of the speeder. If you turn the bottom engine, one of the two side panels will open up to reveal a compartment on the inside.

B75099-22.JPG

The mechanics of this function are simple. The engine is attached to the speeder by a long technic axle, which is also attached to a small black piece that pushes the doors open.

The compartment houses a small container, which could be used to store spare ammo for the stud shooter. The compartment is not large enough to house a minifigure.

Final thoughts[edit | edit source]

B75099-26.JPG

Back when the first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens dropped we all knew that this set would be coming. Now that it's here, I'm not sure that it was a good decision. While I love the speeder and the figures included, I hate the price it's set at. $20 is already a bit much for what you are getting, and being Australian I paid $40! While I would recommend this set, I definitely think that you should wait until the set goes on sale. The price for this set is just too steep for what is included. That's all from me, but what about you? What are your thoughts on the set? And keep checking back because there's still more Star Wars: The Force Awakens set reviews to come!

Nice review, the fact the box doesn't hold anything is kinda weird :P I like the rest of the set though.

You much be rich if you can afford all these sets at Australian prices :P

Thanks for reminding me about that. Rey's speeder was the only set I took pictures of before I built it, and I forgot the picture :P

I'm not rich, I just work hard :)

lol I thought you were being sarcastic and referring to the set's box :P LEGO seems to be including a lot of empty boxes lately.

How do I work hard being so young? I put in all the hours that I can, and the money builds up pretty quickly.

Maybe Rey also works as a part-time moisture farmer and it's a box of moisture? :P
