Thomas is a tank engine and is the main character of the Thomas & Friends series and the DUPLO merchandise.
Background[edit | edit source]
Thomas is a tank engine who lives on the Island of Sodor. He first worked as a station pilot, taking the task of moving coaches and trucks around the yards. He longed to go beyond the station and see the world, and when he proved himself Really Useful, Sir Topham Hatt gave him his very own branch line.

- Thomas is based on the Billinton E2-Class 0-6-0T locomotives built for the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway between 1913 and 1916. Like the last of the engines built, he has extended-side-tanks.
