6713 Grip 'n' Go Challenge is a Town set released in 2000 as part of the Race line.

Description[edit | edit source]

The set features two cars, four tires acting as torches and goal posts, a ball for the racers to fight over, a stand for the Race Official, and three minifigures. The three minifigures are Lucky, Wrench, and the aforementioned Race Official. In addition to helmets for Lucky and Wrench, the set also includes Lucky's green hairpiece and Wrench's red bandanna that he wears on his head. The Race Official has a red megaphone and a flag.

Each of the two cars are quite similar in structure. Lucky's vehicle is primarily green, with black featuring prominently at the bottom. Her car features yellow and transparent orange highlights. Wrench's car is primarily red, with black and transparent yellow highlights. Each car features four wheels. Lucky's car's wheels are grey, while the wheels on Wrench's car are yellow. Both cars use black tires.

One of the most prominent features of either car is each one's large claw mechanism, used for grabbing the large ball included in the set. The majority of each claw consists of two bent TECHNIC beams in the respective car's primary colour. These clamp together to secure the ball in their grip. They are pulled together by black elastic bands. Each TECHNIC beam features a black string, the other side of which attaches to a portion near the centre of the car. When this portion of the car is pulled backwards, the claws are pulled open by the string, increasing their breadth enough for them to grab onto the ball before closing on it. Behind each car's claw is a seating area with a steering wheel for the car's respective driver. Behind this, each car has a 2x4 slope piece, in the respective car's primary colour, printed with some decoration. On either side of this slope are two black tiles, printed with an arrow facing in the direction in which the string-controlling section must be pulled. These tiles sit on 2x2 sloped bricks, underneath which one end of each string is attached. The 2x2 sloped bricks are attached together on each car by an arrangement of plates and tiles. On Lucky's car, the 2x2 sloped bricks are transparent orange, while on Wrench's car, the slopes are transparent fluorescent green. Finally, two transparent studs attached onto the back of each car to represent lights. Like with the 2x2 sloped bricks, Lucky's studs are transparent orange, while Wrench's are transparent fluorescent green.

The torches start out with a wheel and black tire at the base. Into each wheel's hole, a grey TECHNIC pin is inserted, onto which a white 1x1 cone piece can be attached. A transparent flame element can be inserted into the top of each white cone. Two of the wheels used at the base are yellow, like on Wrench's car, and two are grey, like on Lucky's car.

The last build is the Race Official's stand. It stands on two 2x6 grey bricks, with a yellow 4x8 plate acting as the floor. A red rail is attached to the front of the stand, while a primarily yellow and black scoreboard is at the back. Behind the stand, a green flag is erected on the right side for Lucky, and a red flag is erected on the left side for Wrench. To the sides of the slots for the score cards, a transparent fluorescent green 1x1 cone is attached on the right side, while a transparent orange cone is attached on the left side. Each side of the score board features a slot at the front into which the cards depicting the score can be slipped. The scores are printed on white cards, which are torn off from a sheet of twenty white cards included in the set. The sheet includes two cards for each number ranging from "0" to "9".

Lastly, the set includes a large grey ball, which the cars can grab with their claws. The ball consists of one single large piece.

According to a comic in the instructions, while playing the game, the torches are meant to act as goal posts, with two goals sitting at opposite sides of the playing field. The cars would start at their respective goal and race for possession of the ball, which would initially sit at the centre of the field. By getting the ball through an opposing player's goal, the driver scores one point. Since the numbers on the cards depicting possible scores only go up to nine, it could be assumed that the game is played up to nine points.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • A short comic is included at the back of the set's instruction booklet. The comic depicts the start of a game between the two racers, in which Wrench scores one point.
  • The instruction booklet also depicts an optional alternate model, a red car for Wrench where the elastics are used for suspension at the back, rather than for the claws as they are in the set.
