LEGO CUUSOO (Beta), the website where fans can submit proposals and vote for models which has produced seven official sets to date, is shutting down. It will be replaced by LEGO Ideas (version 1.0). All user ID's projects and other data will be transferred from CUUSOO to Ideas, so there's no need to create a new account. The major changes in LEGO Ideas are:

  • Projects will only stay active for a year, and must reach 10,000 votes within that time to pass.
    • They can be re-submitted after this time, but will start again with 0 votes.
  • Users ages 13 and older can now submit projects for consideration.

For more information on the transition, please see this page on the CUUSOO website.

Projects having an expiration date is a great idea, I'm really glad to see that in place. I think a year's a pretty fair amount of time- if after a year you can't even convince 10000 people to hit a button for free, I don't see why LEGO would consider trying to make a set from it where they expect people to pay actual money.

Age for project submissions being lowered to 13... not so good in my opinion. I guess it's good for getting younger builders involved, but I can't see a whole lot of successful projects coming from the younger end of the new age group... 16+ would seem better to me.

Well, if a person who is younger than 18 years old makes a crappy project, it won't last longer than a year. ;) (And if a person under 18 years old makes a great project that hits 10k supports, great!)

I personally think that a year might be too short. The pronounceable name is good though, and TFOLs being able to submit projects may be. I'm not against that idea though.

My personal ideal would be for projects to need a 100 supporter per month average. I do agree that 850 supporters per month (I'm guessing) is a bit high.

833 1/3, so yeah, about 850. I'm not sure about 100 a month though, since they could still creep along and would not have to be completed for 100 months, which is closer to 8 year. I see what they are thinking with the 1 year plan and I'm sure it will work well with licenses, but have unlicensed projects ever passed in less than a year?

I'm not sure... if a currently-accepted one like the Exo-Suit took more than a year, then I would certainly question the criterion. :P

According to the CUUSOO (soon to be Ideas?) wiki, the Exo Suit went up on March 28, 2012 and reached 10,002 votes on January 28, 2013, so it made it in about 9 months. the Modular Western Town was posted on October 14, 2011 and was given a congratulatory 10,000 votes message on May 11, 2012 (if I'm reading the dates correctly) so that one reached the goal three months faster. With those examples in mind, I'm okay with one year. Actually, it sounds pretty good....

(Also, you missed another chance for a "Business, Business, Numbers" joke)

I did miss it again! :O Why couldn't you have left me ignorant of that? :(

And yeah, after those examples, a year does sound fairly sufficient.

I'm sorta glad to see this happen. This will hopefully clear out a lot of second-rate projects, but it might remove some good projects that just haven't got enough supporters as well. (The fact that I can submit some ideas as well, but now the AFOLS aren't permitted to submit projects?)

Looks interesting. An improvement over the old CUUSOO, at any rate. I think the project expiration date is a good idea, although it does rather count on the site being popular enough so that some projects actually do make it. (this doesn't seem like a problem right now, though)

I'm glad this is finally announced. I was able to do preliminary testing of it and suggested some changes that I can see have been taken into account. Unfortunately I still can't spill too much more information since I'm still under a non-disclosure agreement.
