MoS forums - Date Format

I recently had a small debate on what date format we should use in wiki articles, or if it mattered at all. Of course, the dates we go by are Gregorian, and there are several ways to represent Gregorian. There's month-day-year, which is common in the United States, day-month-year, which is common worldwide, and year-month-day, which is common in computer programming and such. :P I highly suggest we add that dates should be in day-month-year format on articles (mainspace, inventory, etc), since it's the most commonly-used format. "7 September 2013" is easy to read, whether in sentence form, or as a sole bullet point. It's good for quick referencing, and I see it being used in various places. On the other hand, month-day-year could work, which is what has been done on most mainspace articles. Lets use the Julian calendar instead. Well, I'm used to d-m-y. Like you say, its easier to read in words. ~ CJC 11:42, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

Date articles are formatted as September 7, so I just tend to do that since it's easier to link to dates like [[September 7]] instead of [[September 7|7 September]] NovaHawk 12:41, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I realized that. We could possibly see if a sysop'ed bot could automatically move/redirect them properly, since most places I see do [[7 September]] instead of [[September 7]]. --ToaMeiko (talk) 05:10, September 8, 2013 (UTC)
