Review:Klinkers/ZootyCutie
With the thanks to Brickimedia and the LEGO CEE, I am proud to review one of the new 2015 Series 5 Mixels tribes: the Klinkers. Each set costs $4.99 USD and were globally released on June 1st.
Tribe Overview[edit | edit source]
The Klinkers themselves are themed around steampunk elements for their tribe theme. Their color scheme is primarily brown, with silver and gold metallic elements decorating them. The original three series had all three waves as almost a checklist on the back of instructions, spoiling the future waves for the viewers. In this case, similar to Series 4, only pictures of the Series 5 tribes are available in the instructions. Each member also contains a code for unlockables in the app “Mixels Rush”, each code giving them a moving collectable card and unlocking secret levels faster. Series 4 did not contain these codes.
Gox[edit | edit source]
The highlight of the tribe is Gox. He is 62 pieces, including the packaged Nixel that comes with this tribe.
Gox is very articulate in his movements. His entire body is on a swivel, letting him rotate it. His legs are made out of the claw grip mechanism used in the Hero Factory sets, which, despite little articulation, give for a very expressive design with good balance. His arms are on double ball joints, allowing both his hands and his arms to be moved in a variety of movements. His fingers are made out of robot arms, giving him an extra layer of flexibility from them, too. Finally, he has a single Technic ball eye that is attached onto an axle, which is even further attached to a wheel, giving it a rotating ability.
Nixel[edit | edit source]
This Nixel is the newer model of Nixel, with the elongated and posable arms. He uses the “angry” face. While with more emotion, these Nixels are harder to put together than the original models.
Jinky[edit | edit source]
In the middle of the road between the three sets is Jinky. He clocks in at 59 pieces.
Jinky is also very posable, though not as expressive as Gox is. He has double-jointed legs that allow for good balance. The tires on the sides of his feet and the steering wheel on his head are also a nice touch for his design. However, his biggest selling point is his arms. He uses two exhaust pipes with the same robot arms as very long arms with much smaller hands. Despite a very creative build, he is much shorter than his package would lead you to believe, with his arms almost giving him a slight falseness to his height.
Kamzo[edit | edit source]
At the bottom of the rankings is Kamzo, who has 58 pieces to his build.
Kamzo almost looks like he could do more to himself. His large claw is located on a swivel, and this is his only form of a gimmick. His legs are very short, leading to little-to-no posing options, and the biggest downside is that of the gears on his head. They are separated from each other on two different axles, so they do little to nothing, save for decoration. All and all, Kamzo is the weakest set of the tribe.
Max[edit | edit source]
This was the first Max I have ever built, and it contains some very high-quality work to it. However, it also has the best gimmicks out of the tribe in general. His single eye is on a swivel, allowing it to crane in every direction rapidly. But, the biggest upside is the use of the gear system. They combine a mechanism that, when turned, allows the arms to automatically move back and forth in tandem in opposite directions, leading to very interesting posing opportunities.

The gimmick of Mixels in general allows for endless possibilities in creating new creations, and these base models are no exception, fitting to be the highlight tribe of the series. While there have been somewhat higher-ranked tribe collections as a whole in waves, this one ranks very high, and leaves for enjoyable sets for this wave.
