Years:

2001 - 2017

The LEGO Message Boards were an official forum on LEGO.com, in which fans may discuss LEGO-related topics online. Since the forum is intended to be safe for children, all posts are reviewed by moderators before becoming public. Users must have a LEGO ID to be able to post. On November 2, 2012, the Message Boards were updated with new features such as new ranks, badges, and users' separate and individual profiles. On March 30, 2017, it was closed down and re-setup as a redirect to LEGO Life's website.

Retirement[edit | edit source]

On 28 February 2017, the Message Boards was instated into a read-only mode, where it was originally closed and removed on 6 March 2017. On 13 March 2017, they updated their sidebar to say "The boards will be taken completely offline in the future, but there is not a specific date planned at this time." At some point later, they re-announced that they will completely take off the Message Boards on March 30, on which it was replaced with a redirect to LEGO Life's website.

Red2x2.png This is a description taken from LEGO.com. Please do not modify it. (visit this item's product page) Why are the LEGO.com Message Boards closing? Just like a LEGO set, theme, game, or site nothing can last forever. In order to make way for the exciting features of the future we must occasionally retire older features.

When are the LEGO.com Message Boards closing? The entire community will become “read only” on Tuesday, February 28. Starting on that date users can read content but cannot post new topics or comments. On Monday, March 6 the message boards will be taken offline. They will not be accessible at all after this point.

What will happen to all the content on the LEGO.com Message Boards after they close? The message boards will not be accessible at all after their closure on Monday, March 6. Users should take the time between now and March 6 to save any content they wish to retain after the boards are closed. All message boards content will be irretrievable after the March 6 closure.

What will happen to my LEGO.com Message Boards avatar, rank, and badges after the message boards close? Your LEGO ID avatar is accessible across LEGO.com and will therefore remain intact after the message boards are closed. Please keep in mind that if you select an avatar in the LEGO Life app it will override your avatar selected on LEGO.com. However, your rank and badges are linked to the message boards and will not exist beyond the March 6 closure.

Will the LEGO.com galleries change or close? The closure of the message boards will not impact the LEGO.com galleries. They will continue to run as normal.

What will happen to the LEGO.com Mods? Are they being fired? The closure of the message boards will not affect the employment status of the moderation team. They will transition to working on other LEGO projects.

Will there be a new platform to replace the LEGO.com Message Boards? The message boards are not being replaced. However, we do encourage all message boards’ users to check out our new community app LEGO Life or some of the awesome LEGO.com galleries and games. We absolutely want to see all of the amazing message boards’ community members in the future.

Can I share information with my friends on the LEGO.com Message Boards, which will allow us to connect after the message boards close? As has always been the policy of the community users cannot share personally identifiable information. We hope to see all Message Boards users enjoying the new community app LEGO Life as well as the awesome LEGO.com galleries and games.

Stud Ranking[edit | edit source]

On the old LEGO Message Boards, there were eight studs above the person’s avatar’s head. Some were yellow, and some were white. The yellow ones were the ones that the poster had obtained, and the white ones were the ones they didn't have. Users gained one of these for having so many posts. What made these different from the ranks is that the amount of posts users needed went up as more people gain more posts. (For example, the first person ever to post would be one of the top 10, and therefore have eight studs) Therefore, you got a stud for being in the top so many posters.

Image Studs Ranking
Rank0.gif 0 studs
Rank1.gif 1 stud Top 500
Top 200 Posts.gif 2 studs Top 200
RankTop150.gif 3 studs Top 150
RankTop100.gif 4 studs Top 100
Top100.png 5 studs Top 75
6studs.gif 6 studs Top 50
7studs.gif 7 studs Top 25
8studs.gif 8 studs Top 10

Current forums[edit | edit source]

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • The Message Boards were updated in 2005 and were supposed to be updated again in 2011 along with the rest of the LEGO.com website, however, they were not updated until November 2, 2012.
  • Before 2001, moderators were trained to view the messages submitted to the Message Boards. In 2011, they trained a new group of moderators and since then, moderation has been much faster.
  • Charge was seen on the front page in his Deep Freeze outfit. Today, there is no "greeting page" and the only minifigures seen are generic ones.
