Set header/Infoboxes[edit source]

It may be just me, but I think some of the old templates are looking a little dated, for example the set header and the infoboxes used in most of our articles. This is just an idea of some changes (and I don't know why the right-hand side of the old set header isn't showing up there, it does everywhere else :S). For the set header, instead of the blue gradient, we could alternately go with the background color based on the theme (like bottom background color of the infobox). For the set header:

  • The white background is just looking a bit sparse to me, a background might help
  • I think we need to ditch the LEGO logo on the side, it doesn't seem to quite fit with the template

For the infobox:

  • I think the width, image size, and the way the content is presented is ideal, I don't think we should be messing with it
  • The black borders aren't doing it for me though. I think a less strong border (a grey shown in the example) works a bit better. And I've removed the black lines between the cells as they seem to make the infobox look a bit chunky, and instead gone with alternating colours, between the specified background color based on the theme and white (which should go with everything).
  • Added some rounded corners in at the bottom, it just looked like it could do with some. I didn't add them to the top, because it didn't look suitable for an infobox (kind of made it look like a bubble instead of a box or something)

Anwyay, let me know what you think, suggest any changes, or make your own designs :) NovaHawk 05:33, 14 October 2013 (EDT)

    • Infobox looks great. Love it. Not sure about the gradient or rounded corners on the set header though. Maybe smaller border radii would work, but I'm not sure. --ToaMeiko (talk) 11:12, 14 October 2013 (EDT)
      • I was wondering that myself, just tried it at 10px, I think it looks better NovaHawk 19:33, 14 October 2013 (EDT)
  • I like the header and infobox, except for the alternating colors. I just may not be used to them though, and I didn't like the black lines anyway. :P Berrybrick (talk) 12:10, 14 October 2013 (EDT)
    • Yeah, it is a bit of a change :) Just my opinion, but I think having the alternating rows helps to break up the content in the way that the black lines used to, so there's no chance of accidentally reading something like Item No: June 2013 NovaHawk 19:33, 14 October 2013 (EDT)
  • I just tried it with the LOTR colours since the it's now based on a LOTR set (see the second infobox) and it looks pretty awful to me. So we may have to look at lightening up some of the colours (is the third example any better?) NovaHawk 19:46, 14 October 2013 (EDT)
  • (The brown makes the white sort of jarring.) Berrybrick (talk) 21:06, 14 October 2013 (EDT)
  • Well, I could make it even paler, or we could maybe introduce a third colour? :S NovaHawk 21:47, 14 October 2013 (EDT)
    • It looks awesome! Not liking the gradient on the top header because it looks too dark. Maybe make it brighter? Other than that I like the ideas or round edges. Good work. --CM4Sci (talk) 22:35, 14 October 2013 (EDT)
      • Thanks :) I'll take a look at making it lighter when I get more time, problem with making it too much lighter is it might make the white text hard to read NovaHawk 01:55, 15 October 2013 (EDT)
  • Not a huge fan of the gradient on the set header (looks a little naff to me), but I do like the improvements to the infobox. UltrasonicNXT (talk)
    • I was originally going to do with a grey (see example page now), I don't know if that's any better. Or, as stated above, it could be made to be the same colour as one of the theme colours NovaHawk 19:09, 15 October 2013 (EDT)
  • Just a note with the issue with the contast between the alternating colours, what I'll do is code it so that the alternate colour is lighter by #202020 (or, if that's not possible for a certain colour, #202020 darker) NovaHawk 05:15, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
  • I'd agree with pretty much everyone above. Everything looks great, except the gradient header. :) Drew1200 (talk)

Update[edit source]

  • Ok, so I've gone ahead and added the new code to the infobox, see User:NovaFlare/Set_header for an example. Some colours will end up needing to be changed over from a colour name (like orchid) to a hex value so one of the templates work, but that's no big deal. So what do we want for the Set header? (I've ruled out the gradient one). Blue, grey, or the same colour at the title field in the infobox?NovaHawk 22:17, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
Use light blue
Use dark blue
  1. Make it a slightly more dark blue and less cyan, like the background of the wiki and the center of the header bar on refreshed. Then I'd be good with it. It'd be cool if on Refreshed, it could be sort of "attached" to the header bar, essentially just positioned so it's right beneath the header and in a fixed position. --ToaMeiko (talk) 03:02, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
I've made up a dark blue one based on that colour, and will work on a fixed position one (link). I'm not sure if it'll work on Deep Sea (I can't test it since we still don't have it back), but obviously it's easy to make the colour scheme/positioning skin specific. NovaHawk 06:19, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
Use grey
Use title colour
  1. Well, depends on the colour really XD CJC95 (talk) 12:43, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
  2. This or the background colour would seem best to me, unlike the other choices, these are guaranteed to fit with the infobox and rest of the article. NovaHawk 08:01, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
  3. Per Nova. UltrasonicNXT (talk)
Use background colour

Comments[edit source]

In the hopes of getting some sort of reaction or vote here, I've gone with the title colour/text colour. Obviously it's open to debate NovaHawk 08:01, 4 May 2014 (UTC)

Rating icons[edit source]

The rating icons are looking a bit out of place too, so I made some new ones: http://www.majhost.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=281678 Any thoughts would be appreciated. MtMNC (talk) 16:37, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

  • Those look great! AC/AR, UC/UR and FC/FR are mixed up in the file names (Green is for Reviews, Red is for Customs) , but design-wise they look excellent. --ToaMeiko (talk) 20:02, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
Alright, I've fixed the file names. MtMNC (talk) 21:11, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
  • The only thing I'm not quite a fan of is the c1 and FA ratings being the same colour since they're different levels, but otherwise no complaints, they're looking good to me :) NovaHawk 08:59, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
  • I've made the blue on FA darker (link). Would it be okay for me to start replacing the icons, or should I wait a bit first? MtMNC (talk) 17:46, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
  • Wait until we have image imports going smoothly. --ToaMeiko (talk) 18:10, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
  • You can probably import them now. The Brickipedia import is done, so whatever the file names are on the wiki currently, feel free to upload your new version to those locations. --ToaMeiko (talk) 20:44, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

LEGO Icon Font[edit source]

I was looking at the new videos page on the LEGO site and I noticed it uses a custom icon font (here's a sampling of the glyphs generated by Font Book, there might be more as well). Do you think any of these could be useful? MtMNC (talk) 19:48, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

  • Those are cool. No idea what they could be used for yet, but if you could get the font, you could add it to /resources/fonts in the splash repo on GitHub so that they can be used later. :) It would be awesome if we could find a use for some of them. --ToaMeiko (talk) 23:06, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
    • Emotes? Like button for Customs? Camotoy 10:40, 13 May 2014 (UTC)
  • These would be interesting. We could use them as emotes, or possibly work them into templates? I'm sure there must be SOME use for them. -Cligra
